Abstract
To broaden the genetic base of sugarcane, incountry germplasm collecting mission was mobilized to Sarmi, Papua from  12 May to 19 May 2013. The collector team, lead by ISFCRI’s scientist, and supported by local staffs of Estate Crop office, had successfully collected a total of 50 accessions consisted of  39 Saccharum oficinarum; 3 S. edule; 7 Saccharum sp and 1 S. Spontaneum.  Morphological variability were seen in term of stem colour, stem wax and eye shape. Out of these, “Batik†accession are specific to Papua; its unique colour may serve as a genetic source for sugarcane marker selection. To assess further their genetic potential, these newly collected germplasm are being planted at Ngemplak Experimental Garden, Pati.
